Superstition

Original and similar lyrics
Very superstitious, writing's on the wall Very superstitious, ladders bout' to fall Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past When you believe in things that you don't understand Then you suffer Superstition ain't the way Hay, hay, hay, ohhhh Very superstitious, wash your face and hands Rid me of the problem, do all that you can Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin' strong You don't wanna save me, sad is my song When you believe in things that you don't understand Then you suffer Superstition ain't the way, yeh, yeh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh go Very superstitious, nothin' more to say Very superstitious, the devil's on his way Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past When you believe in things that you don't understand Then you suffer Superstition ain't the way, no, no, no

Gotta Understand

JURASSIC 5 "Feedback"
[Soul sample cut] "You might wanna say it" Testing "O, Ya got to understand" [Chorus] "what ya gotta" speak the truth for real "you might want to say ?" "you got to understand" We trying to tell you the deal from our perspective The J5 collective will wreck cuz you "You got to understand" keep it together and try "you might want to say ?" but you "you got to understand" We're more than meets the third eye, words fly Reppin' from the bird's eye view [Akil] I ain't hating I just heard better Up the ante on the game and apply the pressure Understand I was a fan Before I was a member of your favorite rap band Understand that I'm still a fan [Soup] And you can keep playing after the fact Related to the game and came after crack Cuz every nigga I know is out ta get a plaque So why you wanna go and do that, huh? [Chali 2na] I don't know man cuz we see fiends who dream c.r.e.a.m Reppin' the west through special effects and green screens And it seems you need to be the one to flash that cannon Or sign the autographs till the last cat's standing [Marc 7even] Brother pass that action, and your trashin' is real Your only way of coming up is probably inking a deal While your thinking the skills, some are thinking the mills In a never-ending quest ta get the house on the hill AND THAT'S REAL [Chorus] [Akil] I need some understanding in this world between me and my girl She want the diamonds and the pearls to be a part of my world Twenty four-sev, but love don't pay the rent So love me when I'm home and cherish the moment [Chali 2na] Uh-Huh Cuz some of you women are men's mirrors I know some women who dodge balls like Ben Stiller Please understand, it's not to offend or seem bitter But every queen, need a king wit her [Soup - singing] Ms. Thing I don't know, but ever I leave you ready to go My Momma told me about how it flow But I didn't wanna listen but she told me so Now if it ever came to the bank account Who'd ya pack ya things and get up and bounce These the type of things that I be thinking about To all my other fellas "you got to understand" [Chorus] [Chali 2na] And all the times I tried ta do ?what this wanna god do? It's cuz I see the world from the Artist eye view You live life the next part is you die, too And there's no one on this earth it doesn't apply to [Soup] Now that's true, cuz every single day I live I'm obligated just ta say it like it T-I is And I ain't gon talk about no cat whose decision is poor Trust me man my hand is just as dirty as yours [Marc 7even] Either they like you, or they hype you, it's a cycle Choices that we make in the vi-tal Cuz in the blink of an eye it can all go awry And the next man will quickly take your title [Akil] Yeah, between me and myself and all of these things Understanding is a theme when we doing our thing From the job to my queen and chasing my dream The whole world needs a little understanding [Chorus (w/ad-libs from Akil)] [cut sample until fade]

Rush Hour

ANI DIFRANCO "Ani Difranco"
rush hour and the day's dawning the rain came and pushed me under the awning the puddles grew and threw themselves at me with every passing car i'm shielding my guitar and there were some things that i did not tell him there were certain things he did not need to know and there were some days when i did not love him he didn't understand me and i don't know why i didn't go he said change the channel i've got problems of my own i'm so sick of hearing about drugs and aids and people without homes and i said, well, i'd like to sympathize with that but if you don't understand then how can you act i expected summer to be there in the morning i woke to the alarm but she was out of arms reach sneaking out on silent thighs that were spent and sore from the hot nights that came before he said i looked for you i don't know why i said i was wearing black so you could see me against the sky take your big leather boots and your buckles and your chains put them on a downtown train i expected he would be there in the morning i awoke to the alarm he was still in arm's reach but his body was just a disguise his mind had wandered off long ago you see in his eyes love isn't over when the sheets are stained in my head there remains so much left to be said make me laugh, make me cry, enrage me but just don't try to disengage me

Same Love (Freestyle)

ANGEL HAZE
[Verse 1:] Hi mom, I'm really scared right now, but I have to... At age thirteen, my mom knew I wasn't straight She didn't understand, but she had so much to say She sat me on the couch, looked me straight in my face And said you'll burn in hell or probably die of AIDS It's funny now, but at thirteen it was pain To be almost sure of who you are and have it ripped away And I'm sorry if it's too real for some of you to fathom But hate for who you love is not exactly what you'd imagine And I guess it was disastrous Because everything that happened afterwards was just madness Locked away for two years to keep me on the inside Because she'd rather see a part of me die than me thrive And it's tougher when it's something you can't deny And ignorance teaches us it's something you decide You're driven by your choices, an optical illusion Here's to understanding it's not always confusion [Hook:] And I can't change Even if I tried, even if I wanted to And I can't change Even if I tried, even if I wanted to My love, my love, my love She keeps me warm She keeps me warm She keeps me warm She keeps me warm [Verse 2:] I've walked the halls of my school And I've seen kids hide behind walls and footballs and things like pride I've seen innocent children suffer beneath bruises Suffer beneath every single hand that chooses ignorance Fuck your religion Fuck constitutions Fuck superstitions There are no lakes of fire; they're here on earth And the only thing to do is put love first And so I stand for the boy who died by his hand To the sound of his father screaming "Woman loves man" "This is Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" And I stand for the girl with the cuts up her sleeve And the heart in her hand and a chip on her shoulder And I stand for it all until ignorance is over This is for you, for knowing who you are For never letting your magic outside of your heart Be you, be brave, and understand that things do change I accept you for you when I don't understand And I love you for you because this is who I am I accepted you for you when I didn't understand Now love me for me 'cause this is who I am [Hook:] [Verse 3:] Here's a message to the people who just don't get it: Love is love There is no difference Not a medication to fix it There is no prescription No rehab to visit It is not an addiction It's love and it's selfless It's yours and everybody else's So don't badger and abuse the solemnly defenseless See us as yourself There's no equality in difference Until we all get it, we'll be drowning in the same blood Despite orientation, we all feel the same love We'll be drowning in the same blood Despite orientation, we all feel the same love [Hook:] [Outro/Talking - with harmonies in the background:] We are boxed in and labelled Before we're ever able to speak who we believe we are Or who we dream we'll become Like drum beats forever changing their rhythm I am living today as someone I had not yet become yesterday And tonight I'll only borrow pieces of who I am today To carry with me to tomorrow No, I'm not gay No, I'm not straight And I sure as hell am not bisexual Damn it I am whoever I am when I am it Loving whoever you are when the stars shine And whoever you'll be when the sun rises So here's to being able Here's to love Here's to loving just because Here's to acceptance Here's to never fearing the fear of rejection Here's to love and never neglecting who you feel you are Here's to bullies because beatings cannot last forever Here's to the moment you realize things do get better Here's to the parents who will get it when its too late Here's to second chances Here's to new fate Here's to every single moment you've ever had to hide you Here's to the single star shining bright inside you, asking you to guide you Here's to who you'll be when you figure it all out Here's to momentary doubt Here's to feeling, because we all feel it the same Here's to the moment that things will change Because we all feel love, we all feel it the same Here's to love, here's to change.

Losing Faith In Words

Peter Hammill
I just can't see why you can't see what I mean, but I can't make things any plainer, the words get in the way - is that quite what I mean? If not now, then certainly sooner or later we've got a problem with communication - look, I scrabble with my hands I try to get some head-room from the elevation but you just don't understand Most of the things we say mean we most of the time treat our speech with derision, flap our hands in body-telegram - I know that gets through so much better than anything said with precision. We've got a problem with communication and it's getting quite absurd... Well, I think I'm going to flip out from the sheer frustration, yes, I'm losing faith in words. We've got a problem with communication, only getting through in anagrams - I try to get some linkage from articulation, I try to get some head-room from the elevation, I try to pull back something from my education... Yes, I try to, try to, try to but I just don't understand, I try, I just don't understand, I talk, you just don't understand. Sometimes I don't know why I bother, but I'm bothered.
