Moffatts lyrics - A Moffatts' Christmas

Old Man Winter

Original and similar lyrics
He's got a real long beard that's white as snow He's got icicle fingers and popsicle toes He's got chestnuts roasting on an open fire He's got you scootin' down the hill on a worn out tire He's got sleigh bells ringing out into the night He's got everybody feeling alright When Old Man Winter comes to town He's got a special way of dropping in And spreading cheer around You know Christmas is around the bend And he won't let you down When Old Man Winter comes to town He's got the whole world sleeping beneath a blanket of white He's got everything shining on a full moon night He's got kids of all ages, clowning around, Building snow forts and knocking them down He's got frost on the windows, ice on the stairs Smoke from the chimney and pine in the air When Old Man Winter comes to town He's got a special way of dropping in And spreading cheer around You know Christmas is around the bend And he won't let you down When Old Man Winter comes to town He knows Frosty the Snowman and all the reindeer And everybody's happy when he's been here Cause he talks to Santa and all of the elves And he took one day of Christmas and he turned it into twelve When Old Man Winter comes to town He's got a special way of dropping in And spreading cheer around You know Christmas is around the bend And he won't let you down When Old Man Winter comes to town

Alfie: The Christmas Tree

JOHN DENVER "A Christmas Together"
Did you ever hear the story of the Christmas Tree who just didn't want to change the show He liked living in the woods and playing with squirrels, he liked icicles and snow. He liked wolves and eagles and grizzly bears and critters and creatures that crawled. Why bugs were some of his very best friends, spiders and ants and all. Now that's not to say that he ever looked down on the vision of twinkling lights, or on mirrored bubbles and peppermint canes and a thousand other delights. And he often had dreams of tiny reindeer and a jolly old man and a sleigh full of toys and presents and wonderful things, and the story of Christmas Day. Oh, Alfie believed in Christmas all right, he was full of Christmas cheer. All of each and every day and all throughout the year. To him it was more than a special time much more than a special day, It was more than a beautiful story. it was a special kind of way. You see, some folks have never heard a jingle bell ring, And they've never heard of Santa Claus. They've never heard the story of the Son of God. And that made Alfie pause. Did that mean that they'd never know of peace on earth or the brotherhood of man? Or know how to love, or know how to give? If they can't, no one can. You see, life is a very special kind of thing, not just for a chosen few. But for each and every living breathing thing. Not just me and you. So in your Christmas prayers this year, Alfie asked me if I'd ask you to say a prayer for the wind, and the water, and the wood, and those who live there, too.

It Doesn't Have To Be That Way

JIM CROCE "Life And Times"
Snowy nights and Christmas lights, Icy window panes Make me wish that we could be together again. And the windy winter avenues Just don't seem the same, And the Christmas carols sound like blues But the choir is not to blame. Chorus:- But it doesn't have to be that way What we had should never have ended And I'll be dropping by today We could easily get it together tonight It's only right. Crowded stores, the corner Santa Claus, Tinseled afternoons, And the sidewalk bands that play their songs Slightly out of tune. On the windy winter avenues There walks a lonely man And if I told you who he is I think you'd understand. Repeat chorus.

The Christmas Spirit

JOHNNY CASH "The Christmas Spirit"
Praises sing to Christ the King And peace to men on earth On Christmas Eve I dreamed I traveled all around the earth And in my dream I saw and heard the ways the different people Hail the king whose star shone in the east and what a dream it was In London Town I walked around Piccadilly Circus A mass of people movin' here and there, I wondered where On every face at every place was, "Hurry up, I'm late" But a kind old man at a chestnut stand said, "Merry Christmas mate" And I felt the Christmas spirit In a little town nestled down in Bavaria Germany I walked along to see what the feeling there would be And here again was the busy din, the rushin', the yellin' But some kind boy said, "Frohliche Weihnachten" Not understanding the words but gettin' the buyin' and sellin' I felt the Christmas spirit In Bethlehem I heard a hymn, some distant choir sang And with other tourists I walked along to a Church as its bells rang Then I heard someone tell someone, "There's where Christ was born" I wonder if He looked like our baby looked on that first morn And then I really felt the Christmas spirit From a businessman in the Holy Land at a sidewalk souvenirshop I bought a little Bible since I'd already stopped And it was in Paris France somehow by chance that I took the Bible out As I flipped the pages I saw these words And I knew what it was all about For I read, "Fear not for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy Which shall be to all people For unto you He was born this day in the City of David, a Saviour Which is Christ the Lord" Then I took the little Holy Book, held it close and tight I closed my eyes and visualized the glory of that night So suddenly it came to me for when I awoke on Christmas Day I felt the Christmas spirit down deep inside to stay O little town of Bethlehem how still we see Thee lie Above Thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by Yet in Thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light The hopes and fears of all the years are met in Thee tonight

Last Christmas

JOE MCELDERRY "Classic Christmas"
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart But the very next day, You gave it away This year, to save me from tears I'll give it to someone special [Chorus:] Last Christmas, I gave you my heart But the very next day, You gave it away This year, to save me from tears I'll give it to someone special Once bitten and twice shy I keep my distance but you still catch my eye Tell me baby do you recognise me? Well it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me (Happy Christmas!) I wrapped it up and sent it With a note saying "I Love You" I meant it Now I know what a fool I've been But if you kissed me now I know you'd fool me again [Chorus] (Oooh. Oooh Baby) A crowded room, friends with tired eyes I'm hiding from you and your soul of ice My God I thought you were someone to rely on Me? I guess I was a shoulder to cry on A face on a lover with a fire in his heart A man undercover but you tore me apart Oooh Oooh Now I've found a real love you'll never fool me again [Chorus] A face on a lover with a fire in his heart (Gave you my heart) A man undercover but you tore me apart Next year I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special special someone someone I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special who'll give me something in return I'll give it to someone hold my heart and watch it burn I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special I've got you here to stay I can love you for a day I thought you were someone special gave you my heart I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone last christmas I gave you my heart you gave it away I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone

Will Santa Come To Shanty Town

Eddy Arnold "Christmas with Eddy Arnold"
(Eddy Arnold - Steve Nelson - Ed Nelson) Will Santy come to Shanty town To a poor little boy like me? Will he bring me some toys Like the other girls and boys? Will Santy come to Shanty town If he sees our Christmas tree? Mommy said he would If I promised to be good. For we don't have a fireplace Or a chimney on our shack Like the other lucky children have Who lived across the track. Now if I say my prayers each day When Christmas rolls around Will Santy come to Shanty town. --- Instrumental --- He didn't stop last Christmas Eve Doesn't he know we live here Will my mommy have to paint my toys The way she did last year. Now if I say my prayers each day When Christmas rolls around Will Santy come to Shanty town...
