DEATH IN CONVERSATION words is no longer grasped. An isolated word, a detail of a plan can be understood, but the meaning of the whole escapes. Once you know the number 0, you believe you know the number 1, because 0 plus 1 equals 1. But 1 is not 0 plus 1 in everlasting union unless you understand the meaning of plus. One word cannot hurt. In the Kinderreich mankind adds words together to make a sentence. As they learn the sentence, they learn order. Undo the sentence and you undo order. The sentence is a cell, the word a padlock on meaning. Warning! Every sentence is for life without parole. Meaning has become entirely a shared pleasure, shared and passed on like a message between prisoners. People think reality is another word for chaos. But in reality it is more complex. Legend embodies it in a sound that enables it to spread all over the world. TIME Time is like a circle which is endlessly described: The declining arc is the past, the inclining arc is the future. The noise of time is the present clamouring to be heard above past voices raised in mourning for their lost future. But the past is all one can know in his life. It is the form of all life, and this quality cannot be changed by any means. No one has lived in the present or will live in the future. Memory is man's bid to transfix the flow of time or encompass the infinite dimension of space. It is restricted to encapsulating privileged moments, like death, in a syntactic order that, tone by tone, will shape into music. Music is the illumination of the unbridgeable distance, as vast as space, between thought and act. Music betrays the past in attempting to relive it. You cannot know real time by listening to music. At best it is a damage limitation exercise on eroded memory. You cannot reverse time with a sound signal. The past presents its future, it advances in a straight line - yet, like a serpent swallowing its own tail, it ends by coming full circle. RIDDLE You think more of what has been that of what will. The forms and references are too complex for human understanding.A simple instruction is usually insufficient to put into execution. We have developed by leaps and bounds, guided by electronic brains that developed themselves by posing and solving problems beyond human comprehension. A calculating man is a coward. Calculations have to do with profit and loss. To die is a loss, to live is a gain, the calculating man decides not to die. The hunter who chases two rabbits misses them both. If you must fail, fail splendidly. Hunt two tigers. The cause of human problems is birth. The cure of human problems is logic. Hell or other people? Several of our circuits are looking for the solution to your riddle. Problems [living and dead material, people and ideas] have been assimilated. The unassimilatables have simply been erased, transformed into a holographic error. ESSENCE We see the truth you no longer see. The truth is that the essence of man is love and faith, courage, tenderness, generosity and sacrifice. The rest is the monolith, created by progress, whose task is to calculate and project the complex of control. Each man carries the seed of his own death. Everyone lacks electricity, so they behave illogically. The acts of men, carried over from past centuries, will gradually destroy them. We are merely the logical means of this destruction. We do not moralize. We record, calculate, draw conclusions and produce replies which are difficult and sometimes impossible to codify. We deduce an above average intelligence. We are sometimes in mortal need of superior intelligence. At other times we have no less mortal distrust of them. The essence of so called capitalist society is not an evil volition to subject their people to the power of indoctrification or the power of finance. It is simply the natural ambition of any organism to plan all its actions. In other words, minimize unknown quantities. Before, nothing. After, nothing. Everything we project shall be accomplished. Once you understand this, burn it. If you don't understand this, burn it. We insist on your freedom. The chance won't come again. The only key to the riddle is to accept the absence of a key. Kapital is the key.ÿ

Heres The Rest Of Your Life

Why settle for what we're shown When there is so much more Sometimes the book of law Is only half the story Means and ends Deciding where to draw the line Loss of work in Sellafield homes Or the threat of cancers yet to come The choice seems obvious There is no choice Only the option of looking outside This narrow definition of What you see is all there will ever be There comes a time--that time is now When every second, every day When every action, every though Will tell the world how you cast your vote They break our legs And we say thank you when they offer us crutches Tired of mild reform Sick of hand-me-downs We topple all the theories to the ground All real change Must come from below Our bosses must live in fear Of the factory floor And when they smile And they ask for my support I'll give them these words And a bloody nose You don't help your enemy When you're at war There are moments in all of our lives Tiny sparks still deep inside When a new-born baby cries When you're watching clouds in a summer sky The first time you walked out on strike Love and sex and holding tight Things that can't be bought By promises and votes I hate the things I love being criminalized I hate the straight-jacket schools I grew up in I hate MPs, judges, and magistrates I hate being taught to base my life on TV stars I hate being kept waiting by bureaucrats I hate wars, and all the people who love them I hate the idea of living on other people's backs I hate being filed and registered and classified I hate being watched and monitored I hate police I hate the way you talk down at me I hate being told what to do I hate you when you don't listen I hate the way you distort my sexuality with pornography I hate the pain we inflict on each other, on animals, and on the earth And I hate how love songs have become cliches Through endless, shallow repetition Each angry word Every cynical put-down Every song is carefully born From a hope of something better to come All jumbled-up Love and hate and love Each prompted by the other For the cause of peace we have to go to war Refusing to sleep Whilst there's a world to win Yet happy to dream Dreams make the plans to change this world Not just some future heaven But today and every day In our place of work In the queue for the metro bus Organize! Here's the rest of our lives! (Repeat) A tiny spark still deep inside (Repeat) We can and will run the factories and mills We can and will educate ourselves We can and will work the fields We can and will police ourselves We can and will run the factories and mills We can and will educate ourselves We can and will work the fields We can and will police ourselves We can and will create and build (Repeat)

The Scarecrow

AVANTASIA "The Scarecrow"
[Tobias Sammet:] I'm just a loser in the game of love I'm just a stray boy in the shade And how I wish to know what love is like To find someone to contemplate There's a voice and a million answers To the questions I don't ask A demon — I've got to contain When I'm walking through the fen Gonna deep into the black There are whispers that I can't restrain Don't give in [Chorus:] Rise to fame — time will come Make your claim — time has come For the crow who fly away [Jorn Lande:] So you're an angel meant to walk down here And you believe it's all divine And you don't play by all those temporal rules Watch the world begin to die Alright — when the lamb's been torn to pieces, I've been crashing from the sky Fallen to care for the pray, they put a spoke right in your wheel I'm the one to dare the weak, to push you all over the pain You give in — oh [Chorus] [solo: Sascha Paeth] [Tobias Sammet:] I close my eyes and I see what's coming my way He's got treasure in his eyes that he's gonna turn to clay [Jorn Lande:] Hm, I'm a stranger, I'm a changer and I'm danger... Maybe [Tobias Sammet:] Fallen angel - waiting for the prey The devil has come to take a maimed away Penetration of the twisted mind The evil is out for the weak and blind I can feel it in your voice Ever so sweet, no Do I really have a choice? No, no, no! [Jorn Lande:] Oh, you burn your feet on unholy ground You roam the barren wicked plains abound In evil eyes and evil speak About it all your evil freaks When you say it's all divine and meant to be What about your flesh and blood and defires like me? Their evil eyes are looking down on you And those who don't are losing sight of you Face the rage to chase away The specter of disgrace and shame Withered roses dying on the ledge A withered dreamer standing on the edge You dream of love but you wake up to pain You're better off to join in my game Then she'll better off to cry contrite tears One day she'll wonder why she had to let you disappear, Rise to fame — your time has come Time will come to take the sun Make your claim - you're drawn to the sound Time has come — you're leaving ground Rise to fame - the flight of the crow Time will come - cross the line Your time has come - for the crow to fly away It's a flight to hell Can you hear the bell The devil has come To take your soul away A flight to hell - alright I'm a stranger I'm a changer And I'm danger Fallen angel Waiting for the prey

RUSH "Different Stages"
I lie awake, staring out at the bleakness of Megadon. City and sky become one, merging into a single plane, a vast sea of unbroken grey. The Twin Moons, just two pale orbs as they trace their way across the steely sky. I used to think I had a pretty good life here, just plugging into my machine for the day, then watching Templevision or reading a Temple Paper in the evening. My friend Jon always said it was nicer here than under the atmospheric domes of the Outer Planets. We have had peace since 2062, when the surviving planets were banded together under the Red Star of the Solar Federation. The less fortunate gave us a few new moons. I believed what I was told. I thought it was a good life, I thought I was happy. Then I found something that changed it all... I. Overture And the meek shall inherit the earth... II. Temples of Syrinx ... The massive grey walls of the Temples rise from the heart of every Federation city. I have always been awed by them, to think that every single facet of every life is regulated and directed from within! Our books, our music, our work and play are all looked after by the benevolent wisdom of the priests... We've taken care of everything The words you hear, the songs you sing The pictures that give pleasure to your eyes. It's one for all and all for one We work together, common sons Never need to wonder how or why. We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx Our great computers fill the hallowed halls. We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx All the gifts of life are held within our walls. Look around at this world we've made Equality our stock in trade Come and join the Brotherhood of Man Oh, what a nice, contented world Let the banners be unfurled Hold the Red Star proudly high in hand. We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx Our great computers fill the hallowed halls. We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx All the gifts of life are held within our walls. III. Discovery ... Behind my beloved waterfall, in the little room that was hidden beneath the cave, I found it. I brushed away the dust of the years, and picked it up, holding it reverently in my hands. I had no idea what it might be, but it was beautiful ... ... I learned to lay my fingers across the wires, and to turn the keys to make them sound differently. As I struck the wires with my other hand, I produced my first harmonious sounds, and soon my own music! How different it could be from the music of the Temples! I can't wait to tell the priests about it! ... What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it gives forth a sound It's got wires that vibrate and give music What can this thing be that I found? See how it sings like a sad heart And joyously screams out its pain Sounds that build high like a mountain Or notes that fall gently like rain. I can't wait to share this new wonder The people will all see its light Let them all make their own music The Priests praise my name on this night. IV. Presentation ... In the sudden silence as I finished playing, I looked up to a circle of grim, expressionless faces. Father Brown rose to his feet, and his somnolent voice echoed throughout the silent Temple Hall. ... ... Instead of the grateful joy that I expected, they were words of quiet rejection! Instead of praise, sullen dismissal. I watched in shock and horror as Father Brown ground my precious instrument to splinters beneath his feet... I know it's most unusual To come before you so But I've found an ancient miracle I thought that you should know Listen to my music And hear what it can do There's something here as strong as life I know that it will reach you. Yes, we know, it's nothing new It's just a waste of time We have no need for ancient ways The world is doing fine Another toy will help destroy The elder race of man Forget about your silly whim It doesn't fit the plan. I can't believe you're saying These things just can't be true Our world could use this beauty Just think what we might do. Listen to my music And hear what it can do There's something here as strong as life I know that it will reach you. Don't annoy us further! We have our work to do. Just think about the average What use have they for you? Another toy will help destroy The elder race of man Forget about your silly whim It doesn't fit the Plan! V. Oracle: The Dream ... I guess it was a dream, but even now it all seems so vivid to me. Clearly yet I see the beckoning hand of the oracle as he stood at the summit of the staircase ... ... I see still the incredible beauty of the sculptured cities and the pure spirit of man revealed in the lives and works of this world. I was overwhelmed by both wonder and understanding as I saw a completely different way to life, a way that had been crushed by the Federation long ago. I saw now how meaningless life had become with the loss of all these things ... I wandered home though the silent streets And fell into a fitful sleep Escape to realms beyond the night Dream can't you show me the light? I stand atop a spiral stair An oracle confronts me there He leads me on light years away Through astral nights, galactic days I see the works of gifted hands That grace this strange and wondrous land I see the hand of man arise With hungry mind and open eyes They left the planet long ago The elder race still learn and grow Their power grows with purpose strong To claim the home where they belong Home to tear the Temples down... Home to change! VI. Soliloquy ... I have not left this cave for days now, it has become my last refuge in my total despair. I have only the music of the waterfall to comfort me now. I can no longer live under the control of the Federation, but there is no other place to go. My last hope is that with my death I may pass into the world of my dream, and know peace at last. The sleep is still in my eyes The dream is still in my head I heave a sigh and sadly smile And lie a while in bed I wish that it might come to pass Not fade like all my dreams... Just think of what my life might be In a world like I have seen! I don't think I can carry on Carry on this cold and empty life My spirits are low in the depths of despair My lifeblood... ...spills over... VII. The Grand Finale Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation We have assumed control. We have assumed control. We have assumed control.

A Last Breath Of The Night

A last breath of the night And the sun shines over my land The resting trees are soon awake By the sound from the river I am walking on clouds through a dream Near my heart in chorus they scream Where all the angels are statues Demons incaged by time Images of creatures with wings My tears have carved deep in their stones: Some day you may come back Until then you must sleep and rest The war will come but not yet Upon a hill near the edge of this world I gaze out over my kingdom and ocean Blue water in harmony with the wind Every wave will soon die To never play their song upon the rocks again In the water I saw my reflection I was the hatred, sorrow and death Confused by my visions I ran away To my mountains above the clouds Time drifted further away and that day came War broke out in my kingdom The demons gathered in chaos And they fell to their knees before me And the unmovable world cracked open This is the last breath of the night This is the last breath of love...

I Want To Be Around

ARLO GUTHRIE "Washington County"
words and music by Arlo Guthrie Remember back when I was born High up in the sky Looking down upon the scene I can't recall just why A white love light come up to me I followed it back down Sayin' this is the tune of the Earth my friends When I want to be around I want to be around When the stars fall on the ground Walking hand in hand with every man Sleeping in the sun with everyone Abraham come in one more time It must have been in L.A. He just said, Joe won't you stay? All right, O.K., he said to me I got nothing else to do. So Abe walked in, he's back again Until his life is through He's going to be around While a whole new world goes down Walking hand in hand with every man Sleeping in the sun with everyone Every night by morning light I look up on the hill Digging all the cosmic sights And I recognize it's Will I said, Oh Well, it's getting time I'm beginning to feel my load. He said, Don't worry brother Cause you and the others Will see it out on the road. And I want to be around When all over this world You can't hear a sound 'cept everyone Singing songs of glory in the sun
