HARRY CHAPIN lyrics - Short Stories

A Lot Of Lonely People Tonight

Original and similar lyrics
Holdin' on tight to my pillow Wish it had a life of its own, Starin' at the ceilin,' Such a funny feelin,' But nobody's home. But I know you're out there somewhere And that you feel the same way too, Now my only problem is trying to find A way of getting through to you. There's a lot of lonely people tonight, Trying to make it through 'til the morning light. There's me and you, babe, that's alright, There's a lot of lonely people tonight. I guess we share the same old dream Or maybe it's the same old lie, There's only one thing I'm sure of, babe And that's our time keeps rolling by. And far too many days run out And nights begin this way, With my half of a hopeful couple Trying to hold the dark at bay. Meet me on a city street Meet me by a country stream, Meet me on a mountain top But don't you meet me in my dreams. Meet me tomorrow morning Baby, maybe you met me back when, You can meet me now inside this song 'Cause I don't wanna sleep alone again.

We've Got Tonight

TOM JONES "Mr. Jones"
I know it's late I know you're weary I know your plans Don't include me Still here we are Both of us lonely Longing for shelter From all that we see Why should we worry No one will care girl Look at the stars So far away We've got tonight Who needs tomorrow? We've got tonight babe Why don't you stay? Deep in my soul I've been so lonely All of my hopes Fading away I've longed for love Like everyone else does I know I'll keep searching Even after today So there it is girl I've said it all now And here we are babe What do you say? We've got tonight Who needs tomorrow? We've got tonight babe Why don't you stay? I know it's late I know you're weary I know your plans Won't include me Still here we are, Both of us lonely Both of us lonely We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow? Let's make it last, Let's find a way Turn out the light, Come take my hand now We've got tonight babe Why don't you stay? Why don't you stay?

Famine

SINEAD O'CONNOR "Universal Mother"
OK, I want to talk about Ireland Specifically I want to talk about the famine About the fact that there never really was one There was no famine See Irish people were only allowed to eat potatoes All of the other food Meat fish vegetables Were shipped out of the country under armed guard To England while the Irish people starved And then on the middle of all this They gave us money not to teach our children Irish And so we lost our history And this is what I think is still hurting me See we're like a child that's been battered Has to drive itself out of it's head because it's frightened Still feels all the painful feelings But they lose contact with the memory And this leads to massive self-destruction alcoholism, drug adiction All desperate attempts at running And in it's worst form Becomes actual killing And if there ever is gonna be healing There has to be remembering And then grieving So that there then can be forgiving There has to be knowledge and understanding All the lonely people where do they all come from An American army regulation Says you mustn't kill more than 10% of a nation 'Cos to do so causes permanent psychological damage It's not permanent but they didn't know that Anyway during the supposed famine We lost a lot more than 10% of our nation Through deaths on land or on ships of emigration But what finally broke us was not starvation but it's use in the controlling of our education Schools go on about Black 47 On and on about The terrible famine But what they don't say is in truth There really never was one (Excuse me) All the lonely people (I'm sorry, excuse me) Where do they all come from (that I can tell you in one word) All the lonely people where do they all belong So let's take a look shall we The highest statistics of child abuse in the EEC And we say we're a Christian country But we've lost contact with our history See we used to worship God as a mother We're sufferin from post traumatic stress disorder Look at all our old men in the pubs Look at all our young people on drugs We used to worship God as a mother Now look at what we're doing to each other We've even made killers of ourselves The most child-like trusting people in the Universe And this is what's wrong with us Our history books the parent figures lied to us I see the Irish As a race like a child That got itself basned in the face And if there ever is gonna be healing There has to be remembering And then grieving So that there then can be forgiving There has to be knowledge and understanding All the lonely people Where do they all come from All the lonely people Where do they all come from

Mr Lonely

DEBORAH COX
Mr Lonely (Hex Hector Mix) Each night you held me in your arms Still you never did keep me warm Conversation was a waste of time You never even asked what was on my mind (oh I) It's funny how I can't recall your touch Spending time alone with you is never enough This emptiness I feel is too much You may not understand there's been a change of plans Chorus: Mr. Lonely, you gotta go You need to pack your bags and be out the door Even though you were there for me You never cared for me Before I couldn't see now I know Mr. Lonely, I'm in love I've found a real man and you need to know And this time you won't be coming back 'Cause his love will last Mr. Lonely, who's lonely now? Two o'clock on a Sunday afternoon Same place, same park, but where were you? I waited, but you never came That's when he sat down, but it wasn't the same (oh I) Every word I said, he'd listen to Everything he had, I was missing in you He's the man I've never had before I won't be needing you no more (Chorus) The silence was killing me It almost got the best of me And now that I've got room to breathe I'm making some changes, changes I'm stronger now, I'm wiser now A real man wants to hold me now It's clear to see I'll never be Mrs. Lonely If you think you're lonely now Wait until tonight (my) babe If you think you're lonely now Wait until tonight (my) babe (Chorus)

A Little More Love

The Wilkinsons
They were just Two lonely people On this big blue ball Somehow fate Brought them together In the middle of it all And tonight There out there dancin' Spinning ‘round And ‘round Chorus: (And/But) There's a Little more love In the world tonight A little more light In the stars A little more grace In this vast universe Starting with this Boy and girl There's a little more love In the world tonight (tonight) The sun will still Come up tomorrow Nothing much will change But for these two Lonely people Life will never Be the same It may not make A lot of difference In the grand design

Giorgia
I know it's late I know you're weary I know your plans don't include me Still here we are Both of us lonely Longing for shelter from all that we see Why should we worry? No one will care, girl Look at the stars now, so far away We've got tonight Who need's tomorrow? We've got tonight, babe, why don't you stay? Deep in my soul I've been so lonely All of my hopes fading away I've longed for love Like everyone else does I know i'll keep searching after to day So there it is, girl We've got it all now And here we are, babe What do you say? We've got tonight Who need's tomorrow? We've got tonight, babe, why don't we stay? I know it's late I know you're weary I know your plans don't include me Still here we are Both of us lonely, both of us lonely We've got tonight Who needs tomorrow? Let's make it last Let's find a way Turn out the light, come take my hand now We've got tonight, babe, why don't we stay? We've got tonight, babe, why don't we stay?
