Mr. Tanner

Original and similar lyrics
Mister Tanner was a cleaner from a town in the Midwest. And of all the cleaning shops around he'd made his the best. But he also was a baritone who sang while hanging clothes. He practiced scales while pressing tails and sang at local shows. His friends and neighbors praised the voice that poured out from his throat. They said that he should use his gift instead of cleaning coats. But music was his life, it was not his livelihood, and it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good. And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul. He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole. His friends kept working on him to try music out full time. A big debut and rave reviews, a great career to climb. Finally they got to him, he would take the fling. A concert agent in New York agreed to have him sing. And there were plane tickets, phone calls, money spent to rent the hall. It took most of his savings but he gladly used them all. But music was his life, it was not his livelihood, and it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good. And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul. He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole. The evening came, he took the stage, his face set in a smile. And in the half filled hall the critics sat watching on the aisle. But the concert was a blur to him, spatters of applause. He did not know how well he sang, he only heard the flaws. But the critics were concise, it only took four lines. But no one could accuse them of being over kind. (spoken) Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards. His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. (sung) Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order. He came home to Dayton and was questioned by his friends. Then he smiled and just said nothing and he never sang again, excepting very late at night when the shop was dark and closed. He sang softly to himself as he sorted through the clothes. Music was his life, it was not his livelihood, and it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good. And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul. He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole.

How Do I Feel

HOKU "Hoku"
I was free when we met You were eating a burito With a girl - some brunette At El Torosco's Then you smiled like you knew Someday we'd be together and together we were for awhile How do I feel ever since I walked away from you I miss you for real Everyday of my life How do I feel Now that it's over Well the thing that I miss the most Is missing you I was lost for a while Every place brought back a memory Of a kiss or a smile that you gave me Now it's changed Well I guess More and more I miss you Less and less Sometimes it's hard to let you go Sometimes You get trapped in a time of your life But you know it gets a little easier over time I miss the moody walks in the rain I miss the poetry, I miss the days I miss the sad songs I used to play But the one thing I miss the most Is missing you.

Desperate Love

Continental Drifters "Continental Drifters"
Written by Susan Cowsill Main Voice: SUSAN Produced by Continental Drifters Released on 'Continental Drifters' (1995) Nobody wants to do it alone And everyone wants a happy home But there's somethin' that no one needs It strangles like a glove Nobody wants a desperate love. Someone to hold your hand And tell your troubles to Someone to hold you when you shake When you're lovin' a heart in two It cuts off all the blood Nobody wants a desperate love. No one showed me how to feel A love that's good and true and real And no one told me how to be And just feel good enough to live. No one showed me how to feel And no one told me how to be And just feel good enough to live. Now all's I'm askin' for Is just a little time To teach my heart a better way To show you just how much And what do you mean to me Maybe then you'll want me to stay. But when you're lovin' a heart in two It cuts off all the blood And there's somethin' that nobody needs Cause it strangles like a glove And when you're standing there looking at me You can bet your stars above I don't wanna be...I ain't gonna be I refuse to be your desperate love.

Growin' A Little Each Day

THE DOOBIE BROTHERS "The Doobie Brothers"
(Tom Johnston) Well, music, sweet music Lord, is gonna be played, mm-hmm And the sound of Billy's banjo Is like honey on your day When they promenade down through the square They'll hear you say I'm comin' your way And I'm only just a growin' A little each day The sun of the delta Beams across your face, oh yeah And good old Grand-dad's stories Seem to set your pace All the men you've known in this town Don't seem to have it And they bring you down Well, remember you're just growin' A little each day So throw out your arms and take in the sky Take down your hair and watch the birds fly Don't be afraid to show how you feel Don't sit and hide, don't you know that you're real You can have it if you want it Change yourself and play 'Cause you're only, only just growin' A little each day So woman, sweet woman Why you feel that way don't you know you're only growin' Just a little each day When the good Lord placed you on this earth His good words to heed It's all that you need And you're only just growin' A little each day Oh, you're only just growin' A little each day Oh, sweet woman, you're only just growin' A little each day

Ashes And Sand

JOHNNY RIVERS "Outside Help"
These feelings have been building up Around us for a long time I remember days when your true lovin' ways Flowed thru my life just like sweet wine And lately you've been acting strange You feel you need a change There's nothing I can do to make you stay So if you must say goodbye This is as good a time as any for me to cry How can they say that somehow It all works out for the good When life can be so cruel You feel just like a fool, you know you should What happened to our dreams, all our well laid schemes We just let them slip right on thru our hands And all that's left when the fire is gone Is just some ashes and a little bit of sand. So naive to think it could be sunshine all the way Look out here comes a rainy day You know, I'll always love you deep inside And girl, I know you never lied to me Oh there was a time we could fly so high They couldn't catch us if they tried They couldn't catch us if they tried
