Long Time No See

Original and similar lyrics
What you been doin, ain't you got no one Where you been keepin' yourself my friend Have you been hidin' underground riding Foolin' yourself in your special way Where's your old lady She was a nice girl Maybe it's best that she went away You have been losin' nothing can change you Hapiness spits in your face always Where are you going, what will you see there You never learn nothin' by runnin' away What you been doin, ain't you got no one Where you been keepin' yourself my friend Loneliness growin', emptiness showin' Finding your peace two or three times a day three times a day

Old Friend

SHOOTER JENNINGS "The Wolf"
I blew in on Tuesday, and shook off my blues day And glady indulged in some tea In the time you'd been biding were the songs you'd been writing So you glady sang them to me We talked about old times, the good times, the bad times And how deep down we're still the same And we talked about women and the hard times we're livin' And how some things just never change [CHORUS] Oh old friend, I might have gone crazy If I'd lived alone a moment too long I'll keep you strong, don't let me get lazy When the rest of the world leaves me blue Old friend, thank God I still have you 'Til 3 in the morning we sat there recalling The times of when we were young While nights on the town when the world had us down And the pimps and the songs that they sung And you'll smoke and you'll ask me how did my life just pass me Is it something that I'm doin' wrong And I'll say the answers to all of your questions Is why we've been friends so long [CHORUS] Oh old friend, I might have gone crazy If I'd lived alone a moment too long I'll keep you strong, don't let me get lazy When the rest of the world leaves me blue Old friend, thank God I still have you When the rest of the world leaves me blue Old friend, thank God I still have you Oh I'm sure glad I do

Lonely People

GOTTHARD "Homerun"
What is life without a friend It's a highway with no end What's a child without a smile Come and listen for a while What is faith without believe Or a maple with no leaves A treasure island you can't find A great picture when you're blind Why are we never satisfied Doin' all Doin' all the things we do Why are we standing in the rain Can't you see It is all for you and me What's a house without a roof And a good friend with no truth What's a mother with no child Or a father with no time What is a priest who's telling lies What's a guardian with no eyes What is a man without a view Take an oath wich is untrue Why are we never satisfied Doin' all Doin' all the things we do Why are we taking all this pain Can't you see It is all for you and me Look at all those lonely people I still wonder where they go Look at all those fancy people They all seem to really know Something , we don't know

The Christmas Guest

JOHNNY CASH "Classic Christmas"
It happened one day near December's end, Two neighbors called on an old friend. And they found his shop so meager and lean Made gay with thousand bows of green And Conrad was sitting with face a-shine When he suddenly stopped as he stitched a twine And he said "Old friends, at dawn today, When the cock was crowing the night away The Lord appeared in a dream to me And said "I'm coming your guest to be." So I've been busy with feet astir Strewing my shop with branches of fern. The table is spread and the kettle is shined. And over the rafters the holly is twined. Now I'll wait for my Lord to appear And listen closely so I will hear His step as He nears my humble place. And I'll open the door and look on His face. So his friends went home and left Conrad alone For this was the happiest day he had known, For long since, his family had passed away And Conrad had spent many a sad Christmas Day. But he knew with the Lord as his Christmas Guest This Christmas would be the dearest and best. So he listened with only joy in his heart And with every sound he would rise with a start And look for the Lord to be at his door. Like the vision he had had a few hours before. So he ran to the window after hearing a sound But all he could see on the snow covered ground Was a shabby beggar whose shoes were torn And all of his clothes were ragged and worn. But Conrad was touched and he went to the door And he said, "You know, your feet must be frozen and sore. I have some shoes in my shop for you And a coat that will keep you warmer too." So with grateful heart the man went away But Conrad noticed the time of day And wondered what made the Lord so late And how much longer he'd have to wait. When he heard a knock, he ran to the door But it was only a stranger once more. A bent old lady with a shawl of black With a bundle of kindling piled on her back. She asked for only a place to rest But that was reserved for Conrad's Great Guest. But her voice seemed to plead "Don't send me away, Let me rest for awhile on Christmas Day", So Conrad brewed her a steaming cup And told her to sit at the table and sup. But after she left he was filled with dismay For he saw that the hours were slipping away And the Lord hadn't come as he said he would. Then Conrad felt sure he had misunderstood. When out of the stillness he heard a cry "Please help me and tell me where am I?" So again he opened his friendly door And stood disappointed as twice before. It was only a child who'd wandered away And was lost from her family on Christmas Day. Again Conrad's heart was heavy and sad But he knew he should make the little girl glad. So he called her in and he wiped her tears And quieted all her childish fears. Then he led her back to her home once more But as he entered his own darkened door He knew the Lord was not coming today. For the hours of Christmas had passed away So he went to his room and knelt down to pray And he said "Dear Lord, why did you delay? What kept you from coming to call on me? For I wanted so much your face to see." When soft in the silence a voice he heard. "Lift up your head for I kept my word. Three times my shadow crossed your floor And three times I came to your lonely door. I was the beggar with bruised, cold feet And I was the woman you gave something to eat. I was the child on the homeless street. Three times I knocked, and three times I came in. And each time I found the warmth of a friend. Of all the gifts, love is the best. And I was honored to be your Christmas Guest.

Trouble

JOAN ARMATRADING "What's Inside"
You've lived your life And how you survived I'll never know People talk of hardships What do they know What do they know Of the strength you had to show To stop yourself from crying out To keep you head above the sand Those times when you were in dispair When trouble seemed your only friend Somehow you kept your spirits high You told him straight don't call again Now there were times When it seemed I didn't care Don't misjdge my silence You had my sympathy I had sympathy And I admired how you Stopped yourself from crying Kept your head above the sand When trouble seemed your only friend Somehow you kept your spirits high You told him straight Don't call again And now the future's looking bright You fought alone and won the fight Kept your faith When times were hard you made it through Trouble seemed your only friend Somehow you kept your spirits high You stopped yourself from crying out You kept your head above the sand Those times when you were in despair Trouble seemed your only friend Somehow you kept your spirits high You told him straight Don't call again
