ALL THAT REMAINS lyrics - Overcome

Overcome

Original and similar lyrics
Past it haunts again The dream's alive And forms this nightmare that has no end Foreshadow all tomorrows So this day to day has my core shaken Still I raise my spirits high I am above this I should never have thought that This would never end The moment we started Old wounds you could not mend Five ended today Six since the four time take away My dreams have fallen No more to share Now the end remains MY one regret like black and stained And spring again I fall from grace I should never have thought that This would never end The moment we started Old wounds you could not mend I should never have thought that This would never end The fear was too much for us to bear So this day to day has my core shaken Still I raise my spirits high I am above this I should never have thought that This would never end The moment we started Old wounds you could not mend I should never have thought that This would never end The fear was too much for us to bear

She Was

Mark Chesnut
She started her new life ten dollars in debt, That's all it took to get started back then. A trip to the courthouse across the state line, No-one could stop her, She'd made up her mind. He was eighteen, an she wasn't; But she said she was, And never thought twice. And came back home as my daddy's wife. She just shook her head when her mama said: 'Are you sure he's the one?' An' she was. He took a job and farmed on the side; He made the ends meet, but she kept 'em tied. Chganges were comin' to their little world, She said: 'What would you like? 'A boy or a girl?' And he said: 'Are you?' An' she said she was, And never thought twice. 'Bout takin' the next step in building their lives. Soon there were three and she tried to be, Everything to us, An' she was. Those precious moments turned into years, In what seemed like the blink of an eye. I held her hand as I leaned down to ask her, 'Momma, are you ready to say goodbye?' An' she said she was, But she thought twice, Holdin' my hand as she let go of life. Daddy always said a woman like her, Would be hard to give up. An' she was. (She was.) If there ever was a picture of love, She was.

Here's Looking At You

BLONDIE "Autoamerican"
As I sit staring into this liquid amber, ripples move out to the edge of the glass. Is that really your reflection in there? I just wanna jump into the warm depths and be there with you, one more time! Oh, alright. Hit it boys! My initials sprayed across a pavement cut into your private interview. Talk to me now. Step into my room, we'll have a word or two. If I ever had a million dollars and if I didn't give it all to you would you lose interest? Show me indifference? Foot in another shoe? Not very high heels. Not wearing sneakers too. A magazine ad, a printed canvas, a basic new shade blue suede shoe. Thought I'd like to have a little party. Thought I'd like to have a little do. Sure I stopped drinking but for the moment, honey, here's looking at you! I'll stop my drinking (give you my promise true), clean out the closet, be existential, and cast a vote for the president too. But for the action of the moment, nothing does what it ought to do. Instant depression, I learned my lesson, nothing that I'd rather do. Come on over my place. Can't see him sideways. Honey, here's looking at you.

Down Across The Delaware

JAMES MCMURTRY "Where'd You Hide The Body"
Bills are paid but it makes no difference To the gods that seem to rule our home Heat shut off for no known reason This old building's got a mind of its own I can tell your footsteps on the stairs from three flights up I know the jingling of your keys You won't hear no and you don't look back and you can't slow down These days you don't have much to say to me. In another town what would fetch a good living Here is barely hand to mouth So I'm going out and get a U-Haul trailer Drag it down the turnpike south Where the Garden State gives way to the real world Falls away in the rearview mirror We'll mend our wounds and wait out the winter Down across the Delaware We get along in a manner of speaking We barely have to speak at all Small talk over take-out pizza Silently passing in the hall Post-It notes... and opposite shifts Once in a blue moon we'll wake up in the same room Thankful for these thy many gifts We run by night, we live it and breathe it We're the best of the best and I just don't care I'll mend my wounds and wait out the winter Down across the Delaware And I'll see you in the spring When the chill don't cut so deep I'll be back around to give this town another crack at me. I heard a voice today I swore I knew From somewhere down in the southern sticks I turned around to see some ragged stranger Bummin change on the uptown six And I froze like a stone Could I ever get that low? Turned my face to the window There by the grace of God I go Where the Garden State gives way to the real world Falls away in the rearview mirror I'll mend my wounds and wait out the winter Down across the Delaware

I Love My Friend

Charlie Rich
My pappy said, Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin' If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln. Have you heard this story of the Hot Rod Race When Fords and Lincolns was settin' the pace. That story is true, I'm here to say I was drivin' that Model A. It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up. That Model A Vitimix makes it look like a pup. It's got eight cylinders; uses them all. It's got overdrive, just won't stall. With a 4-barrel carb and a dual exhaust, With 4.11 gears you can really get lost. It's got safety tubes, but I ain't scared. The brakes are good, tires fair. Pulled out of San Pedro late one night The moon and the stars was shinin' bright. We was drivin' up Grapevine Hill Passing cars like they was standing still. All of a sudden in a wink of an eye A Cadillac sedan passed us by. I said, Boys, that's a mark for me! By then the taillight was all you could see. Now the fellas was ribbin' me for bein' behind, So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind. Took my foot off the gas and man alive, I shoved it on down into overdrive. Wound it up to a hundred-and-ten My speedometer said that I hit top end. My foot was blue, like lead to the floor. That's all there is and there ain't no more. Now the boys all thought I'd lost my sense And telephone poles looked like a picket fence. They said, Slow down! I see spots! The lines on the road just look like dots. Took a corner; sideswiped a truck, Crossed my fingers just for luck. My fenders was clickin' the guardrail posts. The guy beside me was white as a ghost. Smoke was comin' from out of the back When I started to gain on that Cadillac. Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass. Don't you know by then we'd be low on gas? We had flames comin' from out of the side. Feel the tension. Man! What a ride! I said, Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly! And that Caddy pulled over and let us by. Now all of a sudden she started to knockin', And down in the dips she started to rockin'. I looked in my mirror; a red light was blinkin' The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln! They arrested me and they put me in jail. And called my pappy to throw my bail. And he said, Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin' If you don't stop drivin' that Hot... Rod... Lincoln!

Wounded

Inkubus Sukkubus
You, the walking wounded You, the hopeless victim You, who craved new feelings Risked it all to get them I thought you may be stronger Thought your fight was greater When I watched you falling How I pitied what you were I could have made you whole instead you gave in Now I'll leave you lying pale and wounded Thought you may be worthy I thought your soul was brighter Hoped we'd share forever Dreamt of flying with you I saw you had some spirit Saw the spark of fire Tasted only water Left you drowning on the floor Barely walking wounded Barely walking wounded Wounds of apathy and Wounds that should have healed I have loved you briefly I have given freely You denied me your trust I shed no tears for you
